Cookies and Local Storage

Necessary storage
Lectern and its hosting/authentication providers use cookies and browser storage to sign you in, protect sessions, remember security state, and keep the service working. Authentication cookies are protected with the security attributes supported by the service. No advertising cookies are required for study.
Local storage records account/device scope and selected preferences. Session storage separates active account and study-tab state. IndexedDB stores device backups of pending answers and, when enabled, downloaded offline study content and queues. A service worker can cache the offline application shell and authorized downloaded resources.
Your controls
You can manage offline downloads in Lectern and remove site data through browser settings. Clearing cookies may sign you out. Clearing local data before unsynced answers upload can remove that device's only copy of those answers. Lectern shows unsynced status where relevant.
Use the shared-device controls and sign out on a device other people use. Account-scoped storage prevents one signed-in account from viewing another account's cached study material through Lectern. Browser or operating-system access by another person can still expose files you exported yourself.
Optional processing
Optional analytics is off by default. The public-site footer offers an explicit browser-local choice for daily aggregate page and action counts. Account activity measurement is a separate preference in Settings → Privacy. No visitor analytics identifier is created. Short-lived hashed operational rate-limit keys are used for abuse prevention and are separate from measurement counts. Aggregate counts become eligible for scheduled removal after 180 days. Refusing it does not disable ordinary studying. Lectern does not use behavioral advertising or sell cookie identifiers. External payment, authentication, and calendar destinations have their own notices.
